The Executive Writer is responsible for writing powerful, substantive, and engaging speeches, op-eds, talking points, and other content for the CEO of a mission-driven not-for-profit health plan. The position is integral to the company’s goal of amplifying key strategic messages for internal and external audiences. The Executive Writer will collaborate with the CEO, the Executive Office, and the Corporate Communications team and will report to the CEO’s Chief of Staff, Senior Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs.

This role is elgibile for our Flex persona.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the CEO to capture their voice and vision, and work to develop effective executive communications that relay key thoughts and messages to a broad array of stakeholders.
  • Manage day-to-day CEO communications, which includes emails, board newsletters, media quotes, video scripts, and other written documentation.
  • Facilitate regular communications and engagement between CEO and BCBSMA employees, ensuring associates are well informed about company strategy and priorities, collaborating with Corporate Communications, Human Resources, and other business areas as necessary.
  • Manage external speaking engagements, including researching and developing scripts, speaking notes, graphic presentations, and other supporting materials for keynotes, panels, and other appearances.
  • Prepare briefing materials for CEO meetings, events, and other internal and external engagements, collaborating with leaders across the company to ensure thoughtful preparation of talking points, discussion comments, answers to potential questions, or other critical pieces of information that the CEO should know and share with attendees.
  • Stay informed about current and developing community events and news as well as geopolitical, business, technology, security, and healthcare trends and events to inform and provide perspective for executive communication efforts.

Experience, Skills & Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications, or similar field, with 6-8 years of relevant experience working with political and/or business figures shaping and articulating messages for internal and external stakeholders preferred.
  • Ability to research and distill complex information and translate it into clear, timely and compelling communications focused on health care quality, equity, affordability, and experience.
  • Ability to capture the CEO voice in remarks, speeches, presentations, and other written materials.
  • Demonstrated success working as speechwriter for C-level executive, political figure, or other relevant writing experience required.
  • Proven expertise in delivering communications that connect with varied audiences and affect perspectives and actions.
  • Exceptional relationship management skills to establish rapport, trust, and confidence with key stakeholders.
  • High degree of professionalism and judgement; demonstrated ability to handle highly confidential matters and information with discretion.
  • Ability to work independently and calmly manage multiple small and large projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Facility with local and national business trends and health insurance fundamentals
  • Curious, a quick thinker and learner, collaborative and flexible.

High school degree or equivalent required unless otherwise noted above



Time Type

Full time Salary Range: $133,110.00 - $162,690.00

The job posting range is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs and affordability.

This job is also eligible for variable pay.
