Position overview

The senior manager of corporate narrative and content is an important part of the corporate communications team who’s responsible for helping to tell the story of Blue Cross’ values, mission and strategy to our associates (employees). Reporting to the vice president of communications, the senior manager of internal communications works collaboratively across the organization to create a strategy for delivering our messages to associates in a way that provides the right cadence of information to the right people at the right times.

What you’ll do

  • Develop internal communications strategies that are aligned with business goals.
  • Oversee editorial workload and direction across the internal communications team to create, write and edit engaging content across existing – and potentially new – channels.
  • Own development of strategic content for key initiatives in the business.
  • Work with the team to proactively identify messages that are important to share across the business.
  • Provide oversight to ensure messaging is tied to the bigger picture, is clear, consistent, and aligned with the company’s values, mission and strategy.
  • Partner with events manager and executive communications leader to make sure messaging at companywide events is consistent, relevant and connected.
  • Oversee and help execute the ongoing rollout of Smart Brevity.
  • Edit all internal communications content.
  • Form strong relationships with other communicators across the business.
  • Serve on the Crisis Response Team and partner with Enterprise Technology.
  • Find ways to foster two-way dialogue with associates to better understand if/how messages are landing.
  • Stay current on emerging health care news, as well as political, business, technology, security and other trends to inform and provide perspective for internal communications efforts.
  • Monitor and measure the effectiveness of internal communications and make recommendations / iterate based on feedback.
  • Identify opportunities to promote employee engagement and help strengthen our employee culture.

What you’ll bring

  • 7-10+ years’ experience in internal communications or a related field (preferably in health care)
  • A fresh approach to how we communicate
  • Leadership experience and a previous role managing others
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build healthy, collaborative, and trusting relationships throughout the company
  • Outstanding writing and editing skills
  • Experience conducting independent research, verifying facts rapidly, and producing communications under tight deadlines
  • The know-how to handle sensitive material
  • The ability to lead while also prioritizing work in a complex, fast-paced environment
  • Capability to do the work and coach others who are collaborating across the business
  • The willingness to be adaptable and flex as priorities shift

The job posting range is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs and affordability.

This job is also eligible for variable pay.
