The Senior Public Relations Manager will lead media relations efforts and elevate our brand through compelling storytelling. This role will be responsible for developing and executing a proactive, high-impact media relations program that positions the organization as a trusted leader in supporting working families and caregivers. You will translate our mission into stories that land with media by highlighting the meaningful impact we have on children, families, and the employers who support them, while also supporting issues management and reputational risk mitigation.
This Hybrid role requires in-person work at our Newton, MA headquarters.
Responsibilities:
Develop and execute integrated public relations strategies that support business objectives and strengthen brand visibility across top-tier business, trade, and consumer media
Lead day-to-day media relations strategy and execution for priority initiatives and narratives, including building and maintaining strong relationships with journalists, editors, and influencers; consistently secure high-quality, on-message coverage that highlights the real-world impact of our services
Proactively identify and develop compelling story opportunities that bring the brand to life and support business priorities
Partner with internal stakeholders to surface newsworthy moments, including programs, partnerships, and innovations, and turn them into clear, media-ready stories
Draft and edit a wide range of materials including press releases, media pitches, statements, executive talking points, and Q&A documents, that are sharp, clear, and aligned to our brand voice
Monitor media trends, policy developments, and cultural conversations related to caregiving, education, and workforce support to inform strategy and identify opportunities
Support crisis communications and reputational risk management, including planning and implementing thoughtful, transparent, and family-centered messaging during sensitive situations
Operate with strong judgment under pressure, ensuring communications are accurate, timely, empathetic, and aligned with organizational values
Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, legal, HR, operations, and leadership to ensure alignment and consistency across communications
Measure and report on PR performance, with a focus on coverage quality, message pull-through, and contribution to broader business and brand objectives
Minimum Qualifications:
8 years of experience in public relations, corporate communications, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing, or related field
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to craft clear, compelling, and brand-aligned narratives
Proven ability to independently drive a media strategy and deliver consistent, high-impact coverage
Demonstrated instinct for what makes a story newsworthy and how to position it for different outlets
Strong media relations experience, including pitching, relationship development, and spokesperson support
Experience supporting crisis communications and issues management, with an understanding of reputational risk—particularly in environments serving families, children, or vulnerable populations
Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic PR plans in a fast-paced environment
Strong judgment and ability to remain composed and effective under pressure
Collaborative mindset with experience working across teams and influencing stakeholders at all levels
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Experience translating complex or sensitive topics into clear, reassuring communications for families and external audiences
Prior experience supporting executive communications or acting as a communications advisor to senior leaders

Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $109,000 – $122,000 annually. The pay range listed here is what Bright Horizons in good faith anticipates offering for this job opening. Actual compensation offers within this range will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education and training, certifications, geography, and other relevant business or organizational factors.
This position is also eligible for a 5% bonus plan.
