Position Summary
CVS Healthspire™ Life Science Solutions (LSS), is seeking a visionary and results-driven Head of Business Development & Partnerships to scale our business development and client engagement efforts across our Real-World Evidence (RWE) generation, Safety & Surveillance (pharmacovigilance) and Clinical Trial Recruitment capabilities. This leader will be responsible for developing a high-performing team, executing the go-to-market strategy, cultivating high-impact partnerships across life sciences and government industries, and driving growth of LSS product offerings.
This role sits at the intersection of strategic leadership, market-facing client engagement and internal team development. The ideal candidate brings expertise in RWE, Real-world Data (RWD), and clinical development and a proven track record of building successful consultative sales organizations within healthcare or life sciences sectors.

Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Business Development
- Own and execute the business development strategy across all CVS Healthspire Life Sciences Solutions offerings through marketing activities, client prospecting, and relationship management.
- Translate market trends, client needs and competitive intelligence into actionable strategies for the team.
- Lead strategic account planning, pipeline development, and revenue generation efforts across life sciences and government markets.
Team Leadership & Coaching
- Recruit, train, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of Sales Executives (Manager to Senior Manager level), in close collaboration with marketing, sales process and sales operations staff.
- Serve as a player-coach: directly engage in high-priority opportunities to foster relationships, achieve sales goals, and support team development.
- Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and strategic consultative selling that drives growth and aligns client needs with LSS capabilities.
Market Engagement & Brand Building
- Build mid-level and executive level relationships with leaders, and influencers in Medical Affairs, Market Access, RWE, HEOR and Clinical Development functions.
- Present and facilitate strategic conversations with C-suite and senior executives.
- Drive marketing strategy and represent CVS Health at industry conferences and forums, capturing marketing and competitive insights, and connecting RWE experts with clients to elevate visibility and engagement.
Sales & Governance
- Establish, refine, and maintain the organization’s sales processes, including client targeting, opportunity qualification, performance metrics, and development programs to ensure consistent team success.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with colleagues in scientific, government, product, operational, legal, and other line functions to ensure a unified sales strategy and high-quality experience for prospective clients across life sciences and government sectors.
- Partner closely with Legal, Compliance, Clinical and Privacy teams to navigate internal approval processes.
- Contribute to training on governance and strategic selling practices for team members.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in life sciences, health care services, with a focus on RWE/RWD business development and strategic partnerships is preferred.
Knowledge of:
- The competitive landscape of RWD/RWE providers, clinical research networks and data aggregators
- The pharmaceutical purchasing processes associated with HEOR and RWD/RWE
- RWE, HEOR, clinical operations, recruitment, decentralized or pragmatic studies, and buyer personas and industry dynamics is very paramount to the position
- Key stakeholders within life sciences companies and the ability to identify and engage appropriate stakeholders to advance business opportunities
- 21st Century Cures Act and FDA guidance related to RWE
Skill In:
- Leading a high-performing sales or client facing team, the ability to set expectations/goals and monitor progress is mandatory
- Interpersonal communication to enable meetings with various levels of personnel
- Presentations, live and virtual, using technology effectively
- Strategic relationship development and networking through conferences, professional events, and digital platforms (e.g., LinkedIn)
- Drafting preliminary concepts for review and alignment across internal cross-functional teams and external clients
- Application of existing capabilities to developing projects
Ability To:
- Communicate succinctly in both verbal and written format
- Draft reports and business plans
- Address and meet with senior executives, including C-suite
- Maintain a high level of organization across account and contact portfolios
- Meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of:
- Clinical trial models and digital health tools
- Various methods to execute clinical trial recruitment
- Emerging trends in RWE, including pragmatic trial designs HEOR
Skill in:
- RWE or Clinical trial execution
- Digital therapeutics, patient engagement platforms, or large-scale data integration
- Communicating strengths and deficiencies of research teams
- Salesforce or CRM platforms to manage sales process and forecasting.
Ability To:
- Draft project briefs
- Draft and review proposals and Statements of Work (SOWs)
Education
Bachelor’s degree (life sciences, business, healthcare or related field) or equivalent required. Master’s degree (MBA, MPH, MS in Health Economics, Public Health, Clinical Research or Business Management) preferred.
Travel Expectations
This role requires flexible travel (approximately 30-50%) to engage clients, attend key industry conferences, and lead in-person team or stakeholder meetings.
Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$105,000.00 - $231,132.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
