This role is a highly visible opportunity on the Healthcare Strategy & Rebate Forecasting team, responsible for driving strategies to advance rebate performance and profitability for both clients and the PBM organization.

As the prescription drug landscape changes with new high-cost therapies, increased pressure to reduce pharmaceutical costs, and the ever evolving policy landscape, we need a highly motivated, forward-thinker who can identify opportunities and leverage matrix partners to develop innovative strategies effectively and efficiently. As a leader and a do-er, you will use your abilities to deliver actionable insights to the Healthcare Strategy & Rebate Forecasting team and be a people leader, leading a team of talented Senior Managers with the goal of enhancing the rebate value offerings.

In this role, you will have direct reports and be comfortable leading a high-performing team. Your responsibilities will include leading a team that will be analyzing, researching, and recommending formulary strategies that provide prospects and clients with strategic insights and enhanced value for their prescription drug trend as part of the RFP (Request for Proposal) process. You will work across multiple market segments (i.e. Commercial, Managed Medicaid, Medicare, Exchange), developing potential formulary management strategies with a deep understanding of the rebate contracts that support them. This is an outstanding opportunity with exposure to high-profile clients and senior executives.

Additional Responsibilities will be to:

  • Develop underwriting strategies by evaluating rebate models and identifying opportunities to enhance rebate offers.
  • Develop ad hoc reporting/analysis to support rebate forecasting for all deals.
  • Partner with the Formulary Strategy and Custom Formulary Consultant team on CVS strategic formulary initiatives, working in a matrixed environment on multiple projects.
  • Understand manufacturer rebate contracts and the opportunities created for clients based on their own unique characteristics and formulary strategy.
  • Model and evaluate ad hoc projects that may include scenarios for all therapeutic areas, including at the prospect/client level and at the PBM level.
  • Be a part of the Healthcare Strategy & Rebate Forecasting team and engage with Underwriting, Sales, and Trade Relations regarding Trade topics arising as part of the prospect/client RFP process.
  • Lead a team that will develop hybrid formulary recommendations using IRF (integrated rebate forecast) model in order to support on Underwriting RFP (request for proposal) process for PBM bids.
  • Create and articulate formulary strategies which meet CVS financial management goals, with an understanding of impact of current market events.
  • Lead and develop a high performing team of Sr. Managers and Managers.

  • Experience developing analyses and presentations to explain business issues and/or recommend strategies.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively engage with internal teams of varying backgrounds, demonstrating deep analytical understanding in a consumable way.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in healthcare, financial modeling/analysis or actuarial roles.
  • Experiencing in leading a team.
  • Experience in negotiating and/or understanding the Trade or other manufacturer/ purchasing contracts.
  • Experience with modeling, pricing and/or contracting for pharmaceuticals covered under the medical benefit.
  • Experience manipulating and analyzing data from large databases using SAS, SQL or other appropriate software.
  • Advanced capabilities using Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in interpreting the terms and conditions to the agreement and turning them into actionable items to incorporate in rebate forecasting analysis.
  • Actuarial experience and financial data modeling.
  • Experience in managed care which may include PBM, health plans, pharmaceutical market access, with a focus on financial strategy.
  • 5+ years’ experience with pharmacy benefit management, employer or health plan contracts, prescription drug rebates, prescription drug spend, and/or formulary strategies.
  • Exposure and/or knowledge of the evolving pharmaceutical regulatory environment.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, pharmacy, healthcare, business, or related field required; or equivalent experience.
  • Master’s degree preferred and/or actuarial designation preferred.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$100,000.00 - $231,540.00


This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
