Position Summary

The Executive Director of Strategy & Business Development, will serve as a chief of staff and strategic thought partner and execution leader. This role will be responsible for driving alignment, execution, and accountability across the organization while shaping and advancing its long-term growth and strategic priorities.

This role will act as a connector across the enterprise, ensuring seamless coordination between leadership, functional teams, and broader CVS Health stakeholders. This individual will play a critical role in advancing the primary care conversion strategy, enabling the multi-year growth agenda, and fostering a high-performing, collaborative culture.

Major Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Execution

  • Partner with business leaders to define, refine, and operationalize the multi-year growth and strategy agenda.
  • Lead execution of the primary care conversion strategy, ensuring successful integration across MinuteClinic and Virtual Care.
  • Provide strategic insights, recommendations, and analyses to inform decision-making at the senior leadership level.
  • Drive key strategic projects and cross-functional initiatives from design through implementation.

Organizational Alignment & Leadership

  • Serve as a member of the MinuteClinic Leadership Team, actively contributing to strategic discussions, organizational priorities, and business planning.
  • Organize, coordinate, and align efforts across departments within Retail Health (clinical operations, digital, marketing, finance, HR, etc.), ensuring execution against shared goals.
  • Facilitate alignment between Retail Health and broader CVS Health enterprise initiatives.
  • Support the President in preparing for executive leadership forums, board updates, and enterprise-level presentations.

Operational Excellence

  • Establish and manage processes that enable consistent communication, decision-making, and accountability across Retail Health leadership.
  • Drive performance management routines, including business reviews, dashboards, and tracking of key performance indicators.
  • Identify operational risks, barriers, and opportunities, and ensure timely resolution.

Leadership Enablement

  • Act as a trusted advisor to the President, serving as a proxy in meetings, decision-making, and external engagements when appropriate.
  • Foster strong relationships across CVS Health to accelerate Retail Health initiatives and influence outcomes.
  • Support leadership team development, collaboration, and organizational effectiveness.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in healthcare, consulting, corporate strategy, or related field; experience in retail health, primary care, or digital health strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record of leading large-scale strategic initiatives and driving execution in a complex, matrixed environment.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to translate strategy into execution.
  • Strong executive presence and communication skills, with the ability to influence and align stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and highly visible role.
  • Proven ability to deliver results.
  • Good analytical, critical thinking, organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to drive long term strategy while remaining focused on short term results.
  • Excellent prioritization and planning skills and be able to translate strategy to action.
  • Superior communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong ability to work reciprocally and to skillfully persuade others to support important initiatives and gain alignment with our strategy and goals.

Education:

  • BA/BS required
  • Master’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or related field preferred.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$131,500.00 - $303,195.00


This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
