Position Summary

The Lead Director - Pricing & Value Strategy and Transformation will play a critical leadership role in reimagining how CVS delivers customer value through its Pricing, Promotion, and Loyalty ecosystem. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role sits at the intersection of strategy, governance, technology, and change leadership.

The organization’s mission is to improve customer value perception and consumer engagement by shifting from manual, fragmented decision‑making toward integrated, AI‑enabled platforms that drive stronger outcomes, accuracy, and efficiency. This leader will help define and execute that transformation—connecting strategy to delivery across a highly complex, matrixed environment that includes business leadership, IT (DDAT), and external partners.

Success in this role requires strong strategic judgment, executive presence, and the ability to lead through ambiguity while evangelizing change across teams with varying levels of AI maturity.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Strategy & Roadmap

  • Synthesize inputs across Pricing, Promotions, Loyalty, Merchandising, Finance, and Technology into a cohesive, multi‑year Price & Value capability roadmap
  • Translate strategic ambition into sequenced initiatives with clear outcomes, dependencies, and value realization
  • Identify capability gaps and trade‑offs required to move from manual execution toward optimized, platform‑based decisioning

AI‑Enabled Transformation Leadership

  • Help shape the organization’s approach to leveraging algorithms, AI/ML, and automation across the Price & Value ecosystem
  • Partner with data science, product, and IT leaders to govern model usage, scaling decisions, and human‑in‑the‑loop vs full automation strategies
  • Establish guardrails for responsible AI deployment, including monitoring, performance management, and stage‑gating scalability
  • Influence feature prioritization and capability development to ensure AI solutions are practical, explainable, and business‑relevant

Governance & Decisioning

  • Design and operate durable governance forums that enable effective decision‑making across business leadership, DDAT, and external partners
  • Establish clear decision rights, escalation paths, and operating rhythms
  • Ensure transparency across priorities, progress, risks, and investment trade‑offs

IT Capital & Delivery Accountability

  • Partner closely with DDAT to shape and manage the Price & Value IT capital investment strategy
  • Own oversight of the development pipeline, including intake, sequencing, dependency management, and milestone tracking
  • Drive accountability for delivery outcomes while balancing agility in a dynamic transformation environment

Change Leadership & Evangelism

  • Act as an evangelist for change—helping shift mindsets from manual execution toward strategy‑led, AI‑enabled ways of working
  • Influence the evolution of roles and responsibilities across teams as capabilities mature
  • Support workforce reskilling by redefining how teams spend time: less manual execution, more strategic oversight and value creation

People & Matrix Leadership

  • Lead and develop a small, high‑performing team (two direct reports initially, with planned growth)
  • Effectively leverage resources across a matrixed organization where influence is as critical as authority
  • Foster a culture of accountability, clarity, and continuous improvement

Required Qualifications

  • Management consulting experience at a top‑tier or reputable firm (e.g., Deloitte, BCG, Bain, McKinsey, Accenture Strategy), with 7+ years of experience, and demonstrated ownership of enterprise‑level strategy, governance, and delivery initiatives
    OR
  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience in strategy, transformation, pricing, merchandising, loyalty, analytics, or related leadership roles, with demonstrated experience leading enterprise‑scale, cross‑functional initiatives
  • Proven ability to translate strategy into multi‑year roadmaps with accountable delivery
  • Experience partnering with technology, data science, and product teams on complex transformations
  • Strong executive communication and influence skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Management consulting experience at a reputable firm (e.g., Deloitte, BCG, Bain, McKinsey, Accenture Strategy)
  • Experience operating within AI/ML‑enabled or analytics‑driven transformation landscapes
  • Familiarity with governance models for AI, automation, and platform‑based delivery
  • Experience in retail, consumer, healthcare, or similarly complex operating environments
