Position Summary
This role will support a broad indirect tax function, including sales, use, and property tax compliance, indirect tax audits, by owning workstreams end-to-end and partnering effectively across a large, complex organization. This role is ideal for a seasoned, hands-on generalist who can assume ownership quickly, operate with strong judgment and integrity, and proactively escalate or seek guidance when appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute all assigned sales, use, and property tax filings, including gathering data, preparing workpapers, reviewing outputs, and ensuring timely, accurate submission.
- Provide cross-functional support to the audit, compliance, and the item file/research teams by flexing across priorities and stepping in as needed to maintain deadlines and quality standards.
- Evaluate and improve compliance processes through standardization, control enhancements, documentation, and targeted automation to increase reliability and reduce rework.
- Manage and resolve indirect tax notices and inquiries with internal stakeholders and third-party consultants, including business license-related matters, by researching issues, coordinating responses, and tracking to closure.
- Support indirect tax audits by compiling and reviewing requested documentation, preparing audit workpapers, documenting outcomes, and partnering on remediation to reduce future exposure.
- Prepare indirect tax accounting deliverables, including month-end journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations for indirect tax accounts.
- Research and communicate indirect tax law changes and developments, translating practical implications for business partners.
- Monitor nexus and filing responsibilities based on business activities to mitigate indirect tax risk and deficiencies.
- Research and document taxability determinations for goods and services sold and purchased by the company, including recommendations for consistent application and controls.
- Execute special projects as assigned, providing clear status updates, identifying risks, and following through to completion.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of relevant experience in indirect tax or a finance function (industry and/or public accounting)
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of recent experience in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, results-oriented tax department or similar working environment.
- Experience supporting property tax filings and/or property tax data requests.
- Experience supporting indirect tax audits, including documentation gathering, workpaper preparation, and issue resolution.
- Ability to work independently with strong prioritization, accuracy, and ownership, including knowing when to escalate risks or ask for guidance.
- Demonstrated reliability and sound judgment in handling sensitive information, deadlines, and cross-team coordination.
- Experience improving processes and controls, including standardization and automation, to improve end-to-end compliance quality and timeliness.
- Analytical and tax research capability, including comfort translating complex tax concepts into clear guidance for non-tax partners.
- Collaboration skills that enable strong working relationships across teams, including during high-volume periods.
Preferred Computer and Software Skills
- Microsoft Office (Excel proficiency strongly preferred).
- SAP experience
- Ability and initiative to learn new systems required to perform job responsibilities.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

The typical pay range for this role is:
$46,988.00 - $112,200.00This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
