Position Description:

Ensures efficient storage utilization of IP network resources — iSCSI, replication, and backups. Performs analysis of storage infrastructure metrics for customer performance and capacity needs or concerns. Identifies I/O performance and capacity issues across application spaces. Coordinates with the business, infrastructure, and application teams to resolve storage performance issues. Maintains enterprise storage capacity forecasting. Coordinates with server, network, and database capacity teams to ensure storage is available for new application deployments.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Identifies storage migration to optimize application performance and storage utilization.

• Performs third layer escalation support for high impact performance incidents.

• Develops methods for integrating storage capacity and performance products

• Mentors junior team members.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Capacity Planning Analyst (or a closely related occupation) performing performance tuning and capacity planning for storage.

Or, alternatively, Master’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Capacity Planning Analyst (or a closely related occupation) performing performance tuning and capacity planning for storage.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

• Demonstrated Experience (“DE”) working on highly visible storage performance issues on production enterprise applications; identifying performance bottlenecks by looking at I/O latency on the application hosts; and tying latencies to Storage Area Network configuration or hardware failures that can cause performance problems.

• DE with fiber channel storage protocols in production enterprise data centers; working on new installations of switches; analysis of performance issues, including troubleshooting CRC errors; and automating pre-upgrade health checks.

• DE working on performance analyses and enterprise capacity planning for multiple storage array technologies — EMC Symmetrix, HP 3PAR, Pure //X70 and //X90 arrays, and Netapp FAS9000 arrays.

• DE with storage technologies and automation coding using Python to allow improved automation of storage performance analysis without requiring additional headcount.
