Position Description:

Leads a range of initiatives developing the internal and external business strategy of a newly launched reinsurer, as well as developing and scaling enterprise operations -- technology development, IT operations, operational risk and controls, claim administration, reporting systems, legal, and regulatory processes. Synthesizes strategic, financial, actuarial, investment and operational analysis and primary or secondary research into strategic insights and practical recommendations to inform long term strategies. Leads the development of business cases to identify the viability and feasibility of investments while launching various alternatives asset classes. Evaluates key financial metrics, including required capital to meet reinsurance regulatory requirements, stress and scenario analysis under various mortality and lapse assumptions, expected revenue, and Internal Rate of Return (IRR) implications for the reinsurance business.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Drives development of highly complex reinsurance economic and analytical models.
  • Develops assumptions and challenges inputs from actuarial, investment, risk, and financial functions.
  • Leads the development of internal and external communications to key stakeholders (board meeting materials and press releases).
  • Presents complex enterprise information in streamlined and succinct manner to senior leadership, regulators, and board members.
  • Develops internal and external strategic priorities to scale an early-stage reinsurance company.
  • Establishes and facilitates effective cross-functional partnerships and relationships across a wide variety of operational, functional, and technical disciplines both within the company and across outsourced vendors in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Creates detailed implementation roadmaps that include deliverables, timelines, specific resources required, operating structure, Key Performance Indicators (KPI), and group interaction specifics.
  • Evaluates market dynamics, competitors’ capabilities, size, and growth, and identifies opportunities.
  • Provides structure by developing operational processes and driving the build of internal procedures.
  • Leads and initiates multiple and enterprise-wide projects.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Business Administration, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and six (6) years of experience as a Vice President, Strategy and Operations (or closely related occupation) performing project management, operational analysis, project implementation, and delivering project presentations for middle management and senior executives.

Or, alternatively, Master’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Business Administration, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and four (4) years of experience as a Vice President, Strategy and Operations (or closely related occupation) performing project management, operational analysis, project implementation, and delivering project presentations for middle management and senior executives.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

  • Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) developing actuarial models for annuity businesses to integrate actuarial (liability cashflow, mortality, and capital requirement), asset (capital charge across various asset classes and structuring options), and expense assumptions by collaborating with cross functional groups to deliver strategic insights for executive team and Board of Directors; performing model optimization and delivering recommendations for strategic growth options according to life insurance regulatory capital and rating requirements using Bermuda (BSCR framework), US (RBC framework), and AMBest (BCAR); and developing go-to-market recommendations by synthesizing analysis results for senior executives and Board of Directors.
  • DE delivering strategic consulting projects for alternative asset management and insurance business; managing Board of Director meetings and contents for executive team; performing competitive study for private credit, liquid alternatives, and life insurance sectors by analyzing complex data based on product performance, competitive research reports (Preqin, Cerulli, and Limra), third party datasets (Morningstar and Wink), and industry news and survey results to deliver strategic insights for executive team.
  • DE in innovation and strategy development -- forming product teams to run 24/7 projects with resources allocated across regions; developing product, organization, and talent strategies -- screening candidates along human resources and personality dimensions for business units; forming and communicating strategies, including developing and delivering written reports and presentations to internal and external executives and Board of Directors; organizing sessions to review progress, performance, projections, risks, and mitigants for project team, and managing vendor relationships: reviewing performance, attending QBRs to understand business processes, monitoring planning processes, conducting capacity reviews and tool and data analysis, providing oversight on risk mitigation, and assessing vendors and managed qualification and selection processes.
  • DE training, mentoring, and onboarding new hires -- developing streamlined training programs and materials, creating internal resource websites for recent graduates and new hires; conducting on-going 1:1 individual mentoring sessions; developing goals and evaluating individual performance, and delivering performance feedback to team member(s); planning and hosting/conducting training of new international cohorts; and managing direct reports, including performance reviews and promotion processes, and project managing a matrixed team across multiple time zones.
