Director of Communications Strategy, Chapter Lead- Grade 7

The Role

A director of Communications Strategy blends best-in-class marketing activation/ account management responsibilities with deep understanding of channel best practices that deliver communication plans designed to deliver effective, efficient, and resonant marketing experiences that speak directly to the interest, needs, and values of the audiences we serve.

Reporting into the VP, Marketing Lead of Communications Strategy, this individual will be a critical people leader within Fidelity’s Brand and Enterprise line of business, driving excitement, partnership, and orchestration of key workstreams and priorities among internal stakeholders.

This individual will nurture and support their team of 6 direct reports, cultivating a culture of partnership, efficiency, and strategic expertise both among their team and within the broader Asset Mgmt., Fidelity Institutional, Health and Charitable lines of business.

The Team

This role includes oversight of a seasoned team of communications strategists supporting the brand and enterprise line of business. The communications strategy team is comprised of two cohorts:

First, the integrated channel strategist, who owns the integrated channel plans for key campaigns, creating more targeted, effective marketing experiences that deliver on business objectives - delivering the highest quality brand experiences for our customers and prospective customers.

Second, this individual will oversee the marketing activation team, who is responsible for executing on these integrated channel plans, ensuring best in class creative execution and strategically aligned marketing activations. This group of professionals quarterbacks the execution of the integrated marketing plans, ensuring that ultimate customer experiences are impactful and on strategy. This includes, but is not limited to: confirming the combination of channels and messages align to the broader communications strategy; activations meet prescribed communications objectives; ensuring all creative developed is on-brand and consistent across multiple touchpoints- nuanced as needed based on where each asset is delivered; Adhering and enforcing legal and regulatory requirements through process such as eReview & disclosures; collecting and consolidating key stakeholder feedback, socializing as needed to ensure appropriate updates are completed; working with channel SMEs to understand and execute on channel best practices.

You partner closely with channel SMEs to ensure each channel is being activated appropriately.
  • You demonstrate initiative, creativity and proactiveness when an established framework needs to be customized to achieve a business goal and bring forward a recommendation or solve.
  • You have senior-level experience in business analysis, consumer insights, design thinking and marketing to develop communication strategies aligned with and in support of business objectives.
  • You are energized by the idea of building and refining this new capability within Fidelity, demonstrating leadership and collaboration both within and outside of the marketing organization.
  • You are comfortable with design thinking and facilitating real-time workshops and sessions to develop cross-program or cross-channel experiencing.

  • You can explain the role of communications strategy, and how it compares to and complements other internal teams. Can identify and offer a recommendation of deliverables based on business need and available resources. Can articulate how comms strategy compares with previous account management and marketing activation.
  • You have proven ability to effectively lead and navigate multiple large cross-functional organizations in the agile operating model to drive customer and brand value.
  • You have excellent verbal and written communications skills and the ability to effectively structure and deliver presentations, champion recommendations, and influence decisions at all levels of management
