Job Description:

The Role

Fidelity is seeking a transformative Head of Data Governance to lead the evolution of its data governance function. This role is central to enabling trusted, secure, and business-aligned data practices across a complex data estate spanning multiple business units, legal entities, and data domains.

You will drive the modernization of our data governance function by working closely with business partners to establish actionable data governance policies and controls that ensure data is handled securely and responsibly to achieve business objectives.

As Head of Data Governance, you will:

  • Lead our Data Oversight Committee, working closely with partners and domain experts to ensure responsible and secure data usage across the enterprise.
  • Lead all aspects of data usage reviews, access gatekeeping, and the governance of data science experimentation environments ensuring appropriate controls are in place for innovation and compliance.
  • Develop a culture of data accountability and transparency, enabling faster, safer decision-making through trusted data practices.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Strategic Leadership

  • Define and implement a forward-looking data governance strategy aligned with business priorities, regulatory requirements, and AI-readiness.
  • Develop a scalable data oversight and access process that de-risks data usage and promotes faster decision-making across business lines.
  • Establish targets and metrics to measure and monitor governance success over time.

Policy & Framework Development

  • Establish policies for data access, retention, privacy, and protection.
  • Ensure alignment with financial services industry regulations, evolving data standards (e.g., CCPA), and emerging AI governance frameworks.
  • Serve as a technical authority on data governance matters, providing guidance and support to executive leadership and other partners.

Governance Operations

  • Oversee data usage reviews, access gatekeeping, and the oversight of data science experimentation environments (e.g., Data Labs).
  • Own the intake and review of approximately 300 annual data use cases, ensuring timely, compliant, and scalable approvals.
  • Drive automation and workflow improvements to streamline governance processes.

Partnership & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with multi-functional-functional teams including Legal, Risk, Compliance, Architecture, Privacy, ISO, Vendor Management, Procurement, and various customer segments to deliver an outstanding oversight experience.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of proven of experience in data governance, data management, or related fields.
  • Strong leadership abilities in enterprise data strategy, policy development, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Deep understanding of data governance frameworks, regulatory requirements, and data lifecycle management.
  • Proven experience with modern data governance platforms and tools.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills enable you to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Relevant industry certifications and experience in financial services or brokerage are highly valued. Fidelity knowledge is a strong plus.

The Team

Along with the Heads of Stewardship and Quality, you will support the institutional and brokerage arms of Fidelity which are complex business lines. Our dynamic team is comprised of a diverse group of individuals with experience in Operations, Risk, Information Security, Technology & Data Management. The base salary range for this position is $130,000-$219,000 per year.

Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate’s relevant experience, and other factors.

Base salary is only part of the total compensation package. Depending on the position and eligibility requirements, the offer package may also include bonus or other variable compensation.
