The Role

Reporting to the VP of Market Data and Vendor Strategy, we are looking for a Director of Market Data Services who will ensure that teams across Fidelity receive consistent, proactive, high-quality and beneficial market data support. In this critical liaison role, the Director develops and supplies to market data strategy, provides day-to-day consultative support and management oversight of market data spend, including end user audits, and approval of net new or renewal services.

You will be responsible for providing hands-on, high-touch support by sharing in-depth vendor, product and specialized subject domain knowledge for the market data services that meet each business team’s unique needs. To that end, you will lead efforts to establish policies, vet new service requests, reach decisions on spend approval and to share updated spend metrics demonstrating cost savings/cost avoidance against budget expectations.

Additionally, you will promote the utilization and value of the larger IIS (Investment Information Services) market data support organization to senior management and investment teams. You will regularly provide significant updates concerning the team’s accomplishments to management and proactively align the role with initiatives and infrastructure of the broader IIS Operations. You will also be responsible for marketing the team’s services to all investment groups and identifying new opportunities to increase awareness and utilization of services as teams dynamically grow and globally evolve.

Finally, you act as a liaison back to the broader IIS organization by actively partnering with the specialized talent and expertise of the Research Services, Content Management, Market Data, Vendor Administration, and Vendor Relations teams to ensure that unique independent and objective market data content is fully applied, leveraged, and highly valued by the Advisor clients.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provides consistent, high-quality, and proactive market data support to investment professionals
  • Cultivates strong relationships with MDRs, CIOs and senior management to better understand evolving business needs and identify new opportunities to promote utilization of information services
  • Proactively develops and maintains strong relationships with business partners to ensure role clarity, awareness and utilization of the team’s capabilities (e.g., Operations, Finance)
  • Acts as the primary liaison for New Hire Training Program for IIS Market Data Services and creatively collaborates with the Training and Development team to further promote utilization of all IIS support services
  • Finds opportunities for automating and/or technological improvements in data/resource gathering
  • Presents regular team performance metrics and usage statistics to senior management highlighting major achievements and user feedback
  • Develops and supplies to strategic direction and prioritization of market data services by collaborating with other IIS colleagues.
  • Partners effectively with other IIS teams of information professionals to provide 'best-of-breed' solutions to investment professionals
  • Partners with Head of IIS and IIS Director peers to outline and lead team goals and initiatives
  • Cultivates strong ties with internal clients to understand their individual Market Data needs, providing additional insight for the IIS teams
  • Facilitates the contract execution process
  • Assists in the vendor negotiation process to effectively represent budgets and business requirements

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • Required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent with 10-12+ years of experience or Master's degree
  • 8-10+ years of experience with market data vendors, products, and industry-wide issues as well as the investment management industry.
  • Proven management and leadership skills, coaching and mentoring complementary team members in their professional development.
  • Strong background of project and people management with complex deliverables that impact business operations as well as the investment process
  • Strong orientation to and knowledge of investment management information needs, including identification, evaluation, training, design, organization and access preferences
  • Exemplary project management, communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Confirmed ability to work independently and collaboratively with all levels of staff and management
  • Superior skill and ability in multi-tasking and appropriate prioritization
  • Ability to effectively respond to dynamically changing work environment and to positively influence business outcomes

Market Data and Vendor Strategy is a team of Market Data Professionals, Vendor Managers, Contract Specialists and Lawyers that provide outstanding service, specializing in market data and research service relationships for the Firm. We are part of the larger Asset Management Compliance, Risk and Business Operations business unit supporting the acquisition, management, dissemination, and use of data across the Firm. In Market Data and Vendor Strategy, we collaborate with groups across Fidelity including finance, risk, legal and compliance along with numerous investment teams providing opportunities to expand your network and gain a better understanding of the business.

Most roles at Fidelity are Hybrid, requiring associates to work onsite every other week (all business days, M-F) in a Fidelity office. This does not apply to Remote or fully Onsite roles.
