Abandoned Property Analyst

The Role

The objective of this role is to facilitate reconciliation, file reports and remittance of property to the states for those customers that are lost.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • A bachelor’s degree is required.

  • 1-3 years’ work experience in the brokerage, mutual fund or financial services industry is preferred.

  • Intermediate level of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) skills preferred.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Basic math skills; reconciliation experience preferred.

  • Computer proficiency, knowledge of, or ability to learn, internal Fidelity programs (XTRAC, FBSI, CDV, etc.).

  • Knowledge of brokerage/OSG preferred.

  • Prepare reconciliation spreadsheets for each state related to abandoned property.

  • Reconcile state accounts and produce reporting records as necessary for each state.

  • Communicate with state administrators or their agents to obtain delivery instructions for securities and mutual fund shares.

  • Coordinate delivery of property, in accordance with state instructions, with other Fidelity Business units.

  • Process reclaims for customers who are located after having been reported to a state.

  • Respond to inquiries from customers who were reported in prior years.

  • Work with state unclaimed property departments to facilitate reclaims regarding prior years’ filings.

  • Calculate historical dividend distributions, if applicable.

  • Coordinate account transfers between state accounts and customer accounts upon direction from the state.

  • Respond to state requests to provide information on reported abandoned property.

  • Respond to inquiries received by various state and regulatory agencies.

  • Work on various technical and non-technical projects such as assisting in gathering requirements.

  • Pull ad hoc reports as requested by state and/or business partners.

  • Maintain policy and procedures.

The Team

The Abandoned Property Team is responsible for filing annual reports to each state of property that meets state law criteria to be considered unclaimed or abandoned, and for delivering that property to the state in a timely manner. The team also reconciles in-house accounts that are maintained for each state.

Most roles at Fidelity are Hybrid, requiring associates to work onsite every other week (all business days, M-F) in a Fidelity office. This does not apply to Remote or fully Onsite roles.
