The Role

The Credit (Counterparty) Research Analyst conducts fundamental credit research on Fidelity’s insurance/reinsurance partners, bank and broker/dealer trading counterparties, and treasury relationships. This includes the approval and denial of prospective counterparties and the ongoing monitoring of existing counterparties in accordance with internal, proprietary standards, and providing research and advice to Fidelity business units on their counterparty relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performing credit analysis on potential and existing counterparties based on an assessment of the current financial strengths and weaknesses as well as a forward-looking analysis of the expected future credit quality

  • Preparing formal credit research notes on each counterparty, including the assignment of an internal credit rating, rating outlook, and supporting rationale, which provide accountability for recommendations

  • Understanding the country, industry, market, economic, political, and regulatory issues relevant to the counterparty's credit profile

  • Leading due diligence meetings with counterparty senior management teams (e.g. CEOs, CFOs, Treasurers, risk officers, and other business leaders) as an integral part of the credit evaluation process

  • Understanding the nature of Fidelity’s business relationships with each counterparty and recommending practical business and credit decisions which effectively balance credit considerations with trading and business needs and goals

  • Maintaining relationships and clear and effective communications with the Director of Counterparty Research, team members, trading desks, business unit leaders, and other Fidelity personnel

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, CFA, or Associate/Fellow of the Society of Actuaries preferred

  • Experience conducting fundamental credit analysis, with a focus on insurance companies and other financial institutions

  • Strong analytical skills and critical thinking with experience in quantitative methodologies and financial modeling

  • Ability to communicate impactfully, both orally and in writing, with internal stakeholders and Fidelity senior leadership

  • Ability to work in a dynamic and self-directed environment, and to complete timely individual research and collaborative thematic research pieces

The Team

Counterparty Research and Analytics (CRA) is an independent risk management resource within Fidelity dedicated to protecting our clients from risk of loss arising from trading, treasury, and insurance relationships with financial institutions. CRA works extensively with Fidelity’s trading desks that trade on behalf of FMRCo, Fidelity International, Fidelity Canada, Geode Capital Management, Treasury, Fidelity Investments Life Insurance Company, and Fidelity Insurance Agency.

Fidelity’s Onsite Working Model
Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues. This transition does not apply to fully remote roles.

The base salary range for this position is $110,000-$222,000 per year.

Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate’s relevant experience, and other factors.

Base salary is only part of the total compensation package. Depending on the position and eligibility requirements, the offer package may also include bonus or other variable compensation.
