Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience in PR and communications.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working with consumer technology at a multi-product company as a executive communications leader, including in Business-to-Business.
  • Experience building, developing, and maintaining media relationships across consumer, business, and technology press.
  • Experience in management across internal and external communications.
  • Understanding of cloud technologies and policy landscape, including artificial intelligence, privacy, and security.
  • Ability to take initiative, and to delegate/grow careers of team members.
  • Excellent organizational and written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to communication with executives and leadership teams.

About the job

Google Workspace is a division focused on delivering communications and collaboration technologies to consumers and businesses around the world. As a Director of Communications, you will be responsible for shaping internal and external communications strategies, working across Googler consumer products, marketing, policy, partner teams, sales, and more. You will help navigate and communicate Google Workspace’s unique value proposition to end users, employees, customers, partners, and other stakeholders, promoting the critical role this product play in helping users enhance their productivity.

As a leader on the team, you will drive an integrated communications strategy internally and externally, manage and grow a team of communications professionals, work cross-functionally to communicate with journalists and other thought leaders, devise specific communications materials and campaigns, support communications for Google Workspace’s General Manager and other leaders, and counter misinformation that might interfere with business.

As part of the Google Global Communications and Public Affairs team, we work to inform and educate end users, customers, partners, and opinion leaders about the benefits of Google Cloud products, company culture/values, and approach.

It's our job to help inform and educate users, advertisers, partners, opinion leaders--and our own employees--about the benefits of Google's products, our distinctive company culture/values, and our approach to the big public policy issues of the day. To succeed here, you'll combine creativity with organizational skills to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines simultaneously, as well as enjoy pitching to journalists, bloggers and commentators, or producing internal communications and events for our employees. Things happen quickly at Google and to get stuff done here you need to be an enthusiastic team player who can work cross-functionally and isn't hesitant to take risks or try new things.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $238,000-$351,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic counsel to executive Google Workspace stakeholders and collaborate with other Google teams on initiatives spanning privacy, security, and more.
  • Develop strategies and own day-to-day execution of programs, ranging from meetings to product launches, and educate consumer, business, policy and technology press on Google Workspace’s unique value position, including how AI will enhance products.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for executive marketing leaders, policymakers, and partner communications leaders and liaise with Google’s internal communications leadership on issues impacting employees.
  • Manage ongoing executive communications opportunities, including media briefings, speaking engagements, and customer and partner activities, and develop creative consumer PR strategies and tactics that align with branding.
  • Manage and grow a communications team, build and sustain communications programs across consumers and enterprises, and deliver confident/clear communication to help the business grow.
