Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 7 years of experience in PR, media, or internal communications in technology communications, including enterprise hardware or software
  • Experience working for a technology company in the public sector (government or education)

Preferred qualifications:

  • Clear writing style and excellent editing skills, with knowledge of AP style
  • Solid understanding of cloud technologies and the local technology landscape
  • Ability to synthesize information from a large group of stakeholders into concise messaging
  • Research and analytical skills, with the ability to quickly identify trending topics and issues with a defined point-of-view
  • Proven communicator with senior executives and leadership teams
  • Well-developed and maintained media relationships with business, technology, and public sector press

About the job

As the Communications Manager for Google Public Sector (GPS), you will oversee external communications across state, local, and educational segments. Reporting to the Director of Communications for GPS, you will communicate GPS’ strategy and how its products and solutions can solve key challenges for state and local government agencies, and educational institutions. In addition, you will assist with key internal communications for Google Public Sector, including collaboration with Google counterparts, including GPS leaders, Policy and Public Affairs, Sales, and Marketing teams.

In this role, you will align with Google’s policy, sales, and marketing teams to communicate the company’s point-of-view on major policy issues, government certifications, government agreement vehicles, and other key public sector and education trends. You’ll interact directly with journalists across a variety of outlets, including tech, business, vertical, and channel press. Most importantly, you’ll collaborate with executives from across the organization and executives from our customers and partners.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $126,000-$190,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Develop internal and external communications strategies in collaboration with GPS leadership, policy, sales, and marketing teams.
  • Work closely with our PR agency in developing communications materials, briefing executives, staffing media interviews, and driving overall campaigns.
  • Educate and teach, business, vertical and channel press, on Google Public Sector’s unique differentiators and solutions. Become the go-to communications contact for all State, Local, and Education (SLED)-related stories and inquiries across GPS.
  • Anticipate and manage internal communications issues, drafting proactive and reactive messaging and liaising with key stakeholders.
  • Build a pipeline of announcements and activities, including customer and partner news, across state, local, and education in alignment with business priorities.
