Head of Creative Concept

We are seeking a dynamic and innovative Head of Creative Concept to partner with Head of Creative and Agency to translate rational business strategies into highly effective creative concepts across the Guardian enterprise.

In this client-facing role, you will inspire and persuade stakeholders as well as lead and mentor our growing creative team of writers, art directors, designers, and video animator/editors.

You are a master art director or copywriter with a demonstrated ability to bring both art and copy together to deliver highly impactful creative concepts executed flawlessly across all channels.

Key responsibilities:

  • Consults collaboratively with stakeholders at early stages of strategy.
  • Thinks beyond the project to connect the dots strategically.
  • Responsible for developing insight-driven creative concepts and directing creative teams and/or external vendors to deliver flawless execution across all channels.
  • While you have risen from maker to manager, you still roll up your sleeves to contribute with hands-on application of your craft.
  • Unwaivering advocate of the power of creative to drive business results.
  • Partners with Account and Project management teams to ensure creative is on brief, on time and on budget.
  • A leader and mentor for the entire creative team, providing guidance and inspiration to unlock creative potential of all team members.
  • Pitch and present ideas formally and informally.
  • Stay current with emerging trends to inform and inspire creative work.

Required skills and experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in a leadership role working in advertising, creative, and/or in-house agencies
  • Strong strategic and conceptual approach and the ability to generate compelling creative ideas
  • Thorough understanding of every step of the campaign creation process - from pre-pro to production to post
  • Strong leadership skills to guide and inspire creative talent including writers, art directors, and designers.
  • Ability to pitch and convince others of ideas through compelling presentations and negotiate to help meet the business and team’s needs on a project.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with different departments and stakeholders in a respectful and empathetic manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a geographically dispersed team, managing both virtual and onsite team members

Salary Range:

$129,500.00 - $212,750.00

The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
