Job Description

Manulife's Investment Division manages the Company's General Fund on-balance sheet assets and, through Manulife Asset Management, manages assets for institutional clients and investment funds in key markets around the world. Manulife Asset Management also provides investment management services to affiliates' retail clients through product offerings of Manulife and John Hancock.

The Investment Division manages a broad range of investments including public and private bonds, public and private equities, mortgages, real estate, oil and gas, infrastructure, timberland, farmland and asset allocation strategies. The Investment Division has a physical presence in key international financial centres, including Canada, the United States, Hong Kong, Japan, the United Kingdom, Australia, and throughout South East Asia.


The Power and Infrastructure Debt Team is seeking a motivated individual to fill the role of Senior Investment Analyst (or Investment Analyst depending on experience). Reporting to the AVP, Power & Infrastructure, the incumbent will be accountable for managing all aspects of a portfolio of debt investments including annual credit reviews as well as supporting the Directors and Managing Directors on new transactions and overall portfolio administration.

Business unit performance metrics are based on quantitative measures covering new business closed, credit quality, and fee income. Individual performance will be assessed on the basis of support of team performance, qualitative aspects as well as achievement in the following accountabilities:

1) Support Lending Officers in completion of quarterly / annual Investment reviews of public and private placement portfolio investments. (70%)

  • Working with senior staff, follow established report formats to analyze company performance, document risks and mitigants, developments and make appropriate risk rating recommendations.

  • Maintenance of annual reviews to minimize risk of credit loss for Manulife.

2) Assistance in new transactions. (20%)

3) Assist with the preparation of presentations for senior management. (5%)

4) Additional responsibilities and administrative duties, as assigned. (5%)

Requirements:

  • Recent graduate of a Bachelor of Commerce/MBA degree and/or recently completed their CPA and/or CFA designations.

  • Early stage experience in credit and industry analysis.

  • Strong understanding of financial statements, ratio analysis and excel modeling.

  • Highly developed communication, writing and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Team focus with a willingness to undertake a range of duties in support of overall goals.

  • Demonstrated project and time management skills in a multi-tasking environment.

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Boston, Massachusetts

Salary range is expected to be between

$72,000.00 USD - $117,000.00 USD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
