The Opportunity
We’re looking for a highly motivated and experienced Managing Editorto help build and manage a new team - pulling together our advisor portal, communications and design teams to drive an effective and consistent strategy around all content mediums used with our field partners. You will be involved in designing and implementing a wholistic content, communications and editorial process, communications and content governance across the organization and directly manage a team of creative writers and designers.
The Team
The Field Content & Communications Team, as part of the broader MassMutual Financial Advisors Organization, is responsible for a creating the overall content and communication strategy for our MMFA field force, working with our business partners to identify their communications needs and key objectives then creating a plan for effective ways to communicate (video, audio, written, online portal content, etc.) clearly and articulately utilizing our defined content strategy approach. We are also responsible for measuring and analyzing our efforts in the spirit of continuous improvement and transparency.
The Impact:
This is a multi-faceted role in which you will take initiative and be responsible for managing a team of creative writers and designers, working directly with our Content Strategists to support our business partners. This role is accountable to drive our content strategy and lead the editorial and governance process’. You’ll have a positive, supportive, and professional demeanor working with and influencing numerous internal and external partners.
Our Managing Editor will have a strong background in editorial process and best practices, strong written and verbal communications skills and the ability to build and develop strong relationships and teams.
Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:
Oversee content development efforts across multiple business areas.
Work across all channels (written, portal, email, video, etc.) to deliver business priorities and meet our audience needs.
Oversee the editorial calendar and processes, providing leadership and quality control.
Set the standards of excellence for brining products, news and updates to life in memorable and actionable ways.
Manage a large creative operations team which includes creative writers, designers, audio/video and subject matter experts.
Conceptualize content in multiple formats. Guide atomization of content into appropriate channels.
Understand content performance against important KPIs to inform ongoing future content development.
Work to ensure 80% utilization of staff resources.
Drive adoption of content standards and process’ across the business; be an influencer; manage expectations.
Ownership of governance process in collaboration with Head of Field Content & Communications.
The Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or four years of work experience in a related field
5+ years experience in publishing/editorial role
2+ years’ experience managing a large team of diverse skills (writers, editors, multi-media, etc.).
1 + year experience with publishing workflow tools
The Ideal Qualifications
A love of quality content, with experience managing a robust editorial calendar
Top notch, demonstrated writing and editing skills across a variety of content types, formats, and channels.
Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
Strong relationship building
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience managing writers, editors, designers, and other contributors.
Experience with content and editorial production (creating briefs, managing deadlines, handling production)
Ability to think strategically and develop comprehensive narratives that align with audience, business goals.
Working knowledge of content distribution/marketing channel best practices (email, SEO, etc.)
Knowledge of content measurement and reporting metrics, and how to use them to ideate and fuel performance.
