The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and visionary individual to join MassMutual’s Research & Development (R&D) organization as the Head of Computational Social Science. In this key role, you will be responsible for defining and executing a broad, data-driven research program in the social sciences. Example areas of interest may include:

  • How can growing trends in personal wellness, longevity and accessible health technologies be leveraged to help people change behavior to live longer, healthier lives?

  • How can we optimize adoption and impact of new Artificial Intelligence agents?

  • How do we best engage with clients in an increasingly digital world?

The Team

The Research and Development organization is focused on delivering transformational change for MassMutual and its clients, financial professionals, and policyholders. We are a team of data scientists, engineers, social scientists, and product and project managers committed to innovation. We value creativity, courage, and accountability as well as our close partnerships with academia, government agencies, and the broader fintech community.

The Impact:

  • Establish and lead a holistic research program in computational social science

  • Develop roadmaps for projects and pilots

  • Partner with executive leadership to ensure alignment of research initiatives and company strategy

  • Collaborate with inter-disciplinary teams across MassMutual to translate findings into actionable business insights

  • Design and analyze experiments

  • Assemble data sets from disparate sources and analyze using appropriate quantitative methodologies, computational frameworks and systems

  • Disseminate findings to audiences through a variety of media, including interactive visualizations, reports and presentations

  • Mentor junior team members, manage budgets, and stay on top of emerging technologies and methodologies

The Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in economics, sociology, anthropology, or related field

  • 7+ years of social science research experience.

  • 7+ years working with data and relevant computational frameworks and systems

  • Expertise in experimental design and execution

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and willingness to learn new concepts, methods, and technologies

  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

  • Financial Industry knowledge

  • Strong publication history in area of expertise

  • Demonstrated ability to translate research into business impact

Salary Range:

$159,800.00-$209,700.00
